Youth Adapted Sports Open House & Wheelchair Basketball Camp Recap
October 12, 2013 was an exciting Saturday on campus at the University of Richmond. The students were on fall break, but the Weinstein Student Recreation Center was full of action with Sportable’s Wheelchair Basketball Camp and Adapted Sports Open House. Jim Glatch, head wheelchair basketball coach at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, was back in Richmond for the 2nd time, leading pre-season training camp for the Sportable Spokes Youth Wheelchair basketball team. Simultaneously, 9 other youth were introduced to a variety of adapted sports during our Open House. For 6 of those youth, this was their first time ever experiencing adapted sports! Sportable staff and coaches, as well as Coach Glatch and visiting basketball players Jeremy Smith and Andrea Woodson-Smith skillfully guided the young athletes as they tried wheelchair basketball, tennis, cycling, sitting volleyball, and more!
