RICHMOND, VA (Dec 10, 2014)— Sportable is proud to announce that its Junior Wheelchair Basketball team, the Sportable Spokes, won the Bennett Blazers Jr Wheelchair Basketball Tournament this past weekend in Baltimore, MD. The Sportable Spokes defeated the NJ Jr Nets in the Championship game on Sunday, December 7th, with a final score of 36-30.
The Sportable Spokes are comprised of youth athletes with physical disabilities from the Greater Richmond region. 8 players competed in the tournament. The team is coached by Tom Vandever and Cole Sydnor.
“We’re extremely proud of our Sportable Spokes for working as a cohesive unit and winning together as a team!” states Kerry Gannon, Sportable’s Director of Programs. “The team has been training extremely hard over the past 10 weeks, preparing for regional competitions. We’re looking forward to seeing the team compete again in January at the 17th Annual Katie Kirlin Regional Tournament in Philadelphia, PA.”
