Sportable is pleased to announce that its junior wheelchair basketball team, the Sportable Spokes, will be hosting a JR Wheelchair Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 10am-8pm at Glen Allen High School in Henrico, VA. This regional tournament, the first hosted by the Spokes since 2013, is being made possible by the generous support of The CarMax Foundation and Sports Backers.
The Spokes, currently ranked 23rd in the country by the National Wheelchair Basketball Association, will be joined by three other teams from Virginia and North Carolina. The Virginia based Fairfax Falcons will join the JR Thunder and The Revolution from North Carolina in this Mid-Atlantic showcase. The Spokes Invitational represents the final competition for the local squad before they head to Louisville next month for the National Championship Tournament.
“We are excited about the opportunity to bring some of the best youth wheelchair basketball competition here to Richmond this weekend,” commented Hunter Leemon, Executive Director of Sportable. “Our kids have had a tremendous season and we are thrilled they get to close out the regular season here in Richmond that gives their friends and family a chance to see them compete. We are expecting a great day of exciting basketball at Glen Allen High School.”
The tournament is a round robin format with each of the three teams playing head-to-head to determine seeding for the tournament championship. The Spokes will kick off the tournament vs. the Fairfax Falcons at 10am and will play back-to-back games at 1:45pm and 3pm vs. the North Carolina JR Thunder and the North Carolina Revolution. Attendance is free.
