RICHMOND, VA – (Tuesday, May 19, 2020) – Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier adaptive sports club, proudly raised $59,472 in five days through last week’s “15 Years, $10K, 5 Days” matching challenge to kick off the organization’s 15th Anniversary Annual Fund Campaign.
“We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the generosity of every individual who stepped up and helped us exceed our 15th Anniversary Annual Fund challenge,” commented Hunter Leemon, Sportable Executive Director. “With over 100 donors, it goes to show that even in tough times, people want to support organizations that they care about. This is a tremendous way to kick off our 15th Anniversary and we are incredibly thankful for the abundance of community support.”
The challenge was initiated by Sportable athlete, Bill Sweeney, who committed a two-to-one match for up to $20,000. Through an unprecedented outpouring of support, Sportable was able to almost double the total anticipated goal that included Sweeney’s generous gift. These funds will provide critical unrestricted support and will directly impact the lives of hundreds of individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments, including:
This year, Sportable celebrates 15 years of creating opportunities and transforming lives through sport for individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments. Revenues are 97 percent philanthropic, funded almost entirely through donations and grants.
