RICHMOND, VA – (Thursday, July 30, 2020) – Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier adaptive sports club, is proud to host the 9th Annual RVA Tailgate Remote Edition, presented by Dominion Energy, the weekend of September 18-20, 2020. Adapted from Sportable’s signature annual fundraiser event, the largest Remote Tailgate in RVA will bring the community together to raise critical funds and awareness for the non-profit’s mission to make sports accessible and inclusive for individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments. RVA Tailgate Remote Edition Registration is available now at Sportable.org.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring our annual RVA Tailgate event straight to your front door this year,” commented Hunter Leemon, Sportable Executive Director. “While we had hoped to celebrate with everyone in person, the health and safety of our athletes, volunteers, and supporters is our top priority. Instead, we are encouraging you to show your support for Sportable by hosting your own tailgate in the comfort and safety of your yard. Joining us for the RVA Tailgate remotely is a great way to support our mission to create top-quality, inclusive adaptive sports programs for individuals of all ages and abilities.”
To maximize social distancing efforts, Sportable supporters are encouraged to set up Do-It-Yourself orange-and-blue tailgates at home across the Greater Richmond area. Registration includes a 9th Annual RVA Tailgate Kit, which contains an official “RVA Tailgate” yard sign, signature recipes, and tailgate essentials. Prizes will be awarded to the most spirited and innovative Tailgaters throughout the event. There will also be local celebrity surprise drive-by visits, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of Richmond.
Additionally, Sportable has empowered supporters to be further involved with the 15th Anniversary fundraising efforts by enlisting in the organization’s Army of Orange. Sportable’s Army of Orange is a multi-tiered, peer-to-peer fundraiser that empowers and inspires supporters to become advocates for individuals with physical disabilities and to raise funds to support adaptive sports in RVA.
Army of Orange members are encouraged to engage individual networks with personalized appeals or challenges in honor of Sportable’s 15th Anniversary that will culminate with the 9th Annual RVA Tailgate Remote Edition September 18-20. Army of Orange campaigns could range from celebrating personal milestones such as birthdays or anniversaries, engaging in physical challenges, hosting a Do-It-Yourself Tailgate, and many other creative strategies.
