Journey of Hope Friendship Visit Kicks off Sportable Cycling Season
Sportable is proud to have hosted members of Journey of Hope for a Friendship Visit yesterday to kick off the fall cycling session. Journey of Hope members joined Sportable to learn about the Sportable cycling program. Sportable is the proud recipient of a $2,000 grant from The Ability Experience that will provide new adaptive youth cycles for Sportable athletes.
Journey of Hope is a two-week cross-country bike trip as part of The Ability Experience, which is run by the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. The Ability Experience was created to raise awareness and increase accessibility for individuals with physical disabilities.
In the past, Journey of Hope took part in partner rides with Sportable athletes, along with helping out with and learning about equipment and Sportable’s program.
Sportable’s cycling program will run on Wednesday nights from 6-7:30 at Dorey Park starting August 7th. There are expected to be 15-20 athletes who take part in the cycling session. A variety of handcycles, recumbent trikes and tandem bikes are available for athlete use.
Sportable prepares athletes for different races and rides each cycling session. This session will lead up to the Heart of Virginia Bike Festival Ride on September 14 and the Climb to Conquer Cancer on September 22.
