Introduction

Team,

Greetings from Sportable headquarters!

I am so excited to share with you some of the highlights from 2017. Your support and enthusiasm for our mission have made so much possible. With your help, our athletes made historic achievements, we shared the Sportable Story with thousands throughout Central Virginia, and our organization reached new heights in 2017. Our highlights include:

  • • Serving more athletes than ever before – 419

    • Joining forces with the Rim Riders, an adult wheelchair basketball team that has been competing in Richmond since 1973, creating a basketball program that ranks
among the strongest in the country

    • Hosting the inaugural NWBA Preseason National Invitation Tournament presented by CarMax at the Siegel Center, bringing to Richmond over 225 of the nation’s best wheelchair basketball players

    • The Sportable Crush finishing 4th in the National Wheelchair Lacrosse Championship Tournament

    • Reaching over 6,600 youth through our Changing Perceptions in Schools program throughout Central Virginia – our largest number ever

In addition to these achievements, we also accomplished a major initiative of our Strategic Plan by expanding our team. Alecia McConnell, who joined our team during the summer as our first ever Athletic Director, has had a major impact on our organization. Under her direction, we have expanded programming and have set out on a clear path to achieving our Vision – becoming a Top Ten Paralympic Sport Club.

The future is bright for our athletes. We will continue to work hard to provide them with all the resources they need to play, compete, and fulfill their dreams. As well, we continue to discover more people in our community with physical disabilities and visual impairments that need and want our services. With your help, we will continue to create opportunities and transform lives.

It is an honor and privilege to lead this incredible organization. Thank you for all that you do for our athletes – your partnership is amazing!

Cheers,

About

What We’re About

We don’t just provide adaptive sports and recreation opportunities in Richmond, Virginia. The reason Sportable exists is to transform the lives of people with physical and visual disabilities through sport! We know that is a bold claim and some might question whether we can really achieve that mission. Our response – come meet our athletes, hear their stories, watch them when they are in their “zone.” We can guarantee they would agree that in some way a transformation has occurred. This visionary approach to our mission allows us to keep pushing forward and aiming high — just as we ask of each of our athletes!

Our Brand Pillars

Freeing our athletes to see beyond their disabilities.

Building peer relationships and reducing social isolation.

Facilitating physical and attitudinal change in our community.

Our Values

Our people embody what we have come to call The Sportable Way. We define The Sportable Way as “enthusiasm with intention” and it is guided by our core values:
